This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are used on hentonplumbing.com, what each one does, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. The browser sends it back on subsequent requests, which lets the site recognise the same visitor and remember settings between pages and visits.
Related technologies do a similar job by different means. Local storage and session storage keep information in the browser without transmitting it back with every request. Pixels are tiny images used to record that a page or message was opened. Throughout this policy, “cookies” covers all of these.
Cookies cannot run programs, cannot read other files on your device, and cannot carry viruses. They are plain text.
2. How this site uses them
We keep cookie use deliberately minimal. This site is a brochure for a local contracting business; it does not need to follow you around the internet, and it does not try to.
Specifically, this site:
- sets no advertising cookies and participates in no advertising network;
- runs no social media tracking pixels;
- does not build profiles of visitors or share browsing data with third parties;
- loads every script, stylesheet, font and image from our own server, so third parties are not contacted as a side effect of loading a page.
What remains is a small number of items that either keep the site working or help us understand which pages are useful.
3. Categories we use
3.1 Strictly necessary
These are required for the website to function. They are set without consent because the site cannot operate properly without them, and they store no information that identifies you.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
hp-cookie-choice | Local storage | Records whether you selected “Accept all” or “Essential only”, so the notice is not shown on every page | Until you clear site data |
| Session identifier | Cookie | Set by the web server to associate the requests that make up a single visit; used for security and load balancing | Until the browser closes |
3.2 Preference
These remember choices you make so the site behaves consistently. They are set only after you accept.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
hp-filter | Local storage | Remembers the category filter you last used on the projects and articles pages | Until you clear site data |
3.3 Analytics
If analytics are enabled on this site, they are configured for the minimum useful data: IP addresses truncated before storage, no cross-site tracking, and no advertising features. They are set only after you accept, and refusing them has no effect on how the site works for you.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_hp_visit | Cookie | Distinguishes a returning visit from a new one so page counts are not inflated | 24 hours |
_hp_stats | Cookie | Aggregated page-view counting; no identifier is stored | 13 months |
3.4 Third-party content
Two links on this site lead to external services — a mapping provider and a social media page. Simply seeing those links sets nothing. If you follow one, that operator may set its own cookies under its own policy, over which we have no control.
4. Your choices
The banner on this site
On your first visit you are offered “Accept all” and “Essential only”. Your choice is recorded so you are not asked again. To change it, clear this site’s stored data in your browser; the banner will reappear on the next visit.
Browser controls
Every modern browser lets you view, block and delete cookies. Blocking all cookies will break parts of many websites; blocking third-party cookies is a reasonable default that will not affect this site at all.
- Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies
- Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data
- Safari — Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data
- Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions
- Mobile browsers — under the browser’s own settings, not the device settings
Private browsing
Private or incognito windows discard cookies and storage when closed. Using one means the cookie notice will appear on every visit, which is the expected behaviour rather than a fault.
5. What happens if you refuse
Selecting “Essential only” has no practical effect on your experience of this website. Every page, form, gallery and article works identically. The differences are:
- we cannot tell which pages are being read, so improvements are based on guesswork rather than evidence;
- filter selections are not remembered between visits;
- nothing else changes.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies entirely at browser level may cause the cookie notice to reappear on every page load, since there is nowhere to record your answer.
6. Cookies in email
Where we send service reminders by email, those messages may contain a single tracking pixel that tells us whether the message was opened. We use it only to judge whether reminders are reaching people, not to build a profile.
Most email clients block remote images by default, which disables the pixel. Leaving that setting alone is the simplest way to opt out.
7. Changes to this policy
If we add, remove or change a cookie we will update the tables in section 3 and revise the date at the top of this page. Where a change introduces a new non-essential cookie, we will ask for consent again before setting it.
We review this policy at least once a year.
