We want everybody to be able to use this website and to reach us for service. This statement explains the standard we work to, what we have done, what still needs improvement, and how to contact us if you hit a barrier.
1. Our commitment
Henton Plumbing & Air Conditioning, Inc. wants every visitor to be able to use this website, and every customer to be able to reach us, regardless of ability or the technology they use. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, which is the standard most commonly referenced in United States accessibility law.
Accessibility is not a one-off project. We review the site when we change it and act on feedback from visitors, which is usually the most useful source of information we get.
2. What we have done
Specific measures built into this website:
- Semantic structure. Pages use real headings in order, landmark regions, lists and tables, so screen readers can navigate by structure rather than guesswork.
- Keyboard operation. Every interactive element — menus, tabs, accordions, the gallery, the image viewer, the carousel and all form controls — can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone. Focus is visible at all times and is never trapped except deliberately within the image viewer and mobile menu, both of which close with the Escape key.
- Skip link. A “Skip to main content” link is the first focusable element on every page.
- Text alternatives. Informative images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- Colour contrast. Body text and interface elements meet or exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required at Level AA, and large text meets 3:1.
- Colour is never the only cue. Form errors are marked with text and an ARIA state as well as a colour change; active filters use pressed states, not colour alone.
- Resizable text. The layout uses relative units and remains usable at 200 per cent zoom without horizontal scrolling.
- Reduced motion. If your system requests reduced motion, animations, the automatic slideshow and smooth scrolling are disabled.
- Form labelling. Every field has a visible, associated label; required fields are marked in text; errors are announced to assistive technology and describe how to fix the problem.
- No automatic media. Nothing plays sound automatically, and the homepage slideshow pauses on hover, on focus and when the tab is hidden.
- Responsive layout. The site works in portrait and landscape and adapts down to small phone screens without loss of content or function.
3. Known limitations
We would rather list problems than pretend they do not exist. We are aware of the following:
- Older photographs. Some archive images retain their original alternative text, which is briefer than we would now write. We are revising these.
- Complex tables. A small number of comparison tables are wide and scroll horizontally on narrow screens. The scroll region is keyboard accessible, but the experience is not ideal on a phone.
- External services. Links to a mapping provider and a social media page lead to sites whose accessibility we do not control.
- PDF documents. Where we supply a PDF estimate or specification, it may not be fully tagged. Ask and we will provide the same information in an accessible format.
4. Assistive technology we test with
We check the site against a representative set of tools and settings:
| Technology | Platform | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| NVDA | Windows | Heading navigation, landmarks, form labelling, error announcement |
| VoiceOver | macOS and iOS | Rotor navigation, focus order, gestures on mobile |
| Keyboard only | All | Focus visibility, tab order, escape from overlays |
| Browser zoom to 200 per cent | All | Reflow without horizontal scrolling, no content loss |
| Reduced motion setting | All | Animation and auto-advance suppressed |
| High contrast and forced colours | Windows | Borders and focus indicators remain visible |

6. Accessibility at your property
Accessibility does not stop at the website. When we work at your home we can:
- telephone ahead so you are not surprised by the door;
- keep walkways and mobility routes clear throughout the visit and restore them before leaving;
- explain work verbally and in writing, whichever suits you;
- fit lever-handled taps, higher toilets, thermostatic mixing valves for scald protection, accessible shower controls and other fixtures chosen for ease of use;
- position thermostats and shut-off valves at reachable heights during a remodel;
- work with an occupational therapist’s recommendations where you have them.
Mention any requirement when you book and we will note it on the work order.
7. Giving us feedback
Feedback on accessibility is genuinely welcome and is the fastest route to a fix. If you encounter a barrier, please tell us:
- the page address where the problem occurred;
- what you were trying to do;
- what happened instead;
- the browser, operating system and any assistive technology you were using.
Send it to [email protected] with “Accessibility” in the subject line, or telephone 785-776-5548.
We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within three business days and to describe our intended remedy and timescale within ten business days. Where a fix will take longer, we will offer an alternative way to get the information or service in the meantime.
8. Formal complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate the matter in writing to the owner at 8838 Quail Ln, Manhattan, KS 66502, marked for the attention of the proprietor. We will review the complaint personally and reply in writing.
Nothing in this statement limits any right you have under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Kansas law, or any other applicable accessibility legislation.
9. Ongoing work
Planned improvements, in order of priority:
- rewriting alternative text on the remaining archive photographs;
- improving the responsive behaviour of wide comparison tables;
- publishing accessible versions of downloadable documents;
- an annual review by an independent accessibility auditor.
This statement was last reviewed on 1 September 2026 and is reviewed at least annually, and whenever the website changes substantially.
