Who we are

Eight decades of keeping Flint Hills homes comfortable

Henton Plumbing and Air Conditioning opened its doors in 1942 and has been in the same business ever since: keeping water running where it should, heat on in January, and cold air moving in July.

We are deliberately a small shop. The person who answers the phone knows the technician who will be at your house, and the technician has usually been here long enough to remember the last time he worked on your system.

  • Residential and light commercial
  • Written estimates, free of charge
  • Manual J load calculations
  • Combustion and CO safety testing
  • Camera inspection on sewer work
  • Parts stocked on the trucks
How a call works

Four steps, no mystery

The same sequence whether you are calling about a dripping tap or a whole-house system replacement.

You call or write

Tell us what the system is doing. We ask enough questions to send the right technician with the right parts on the truck.

We diagnose on site

Measurements, not guesses. Electrical readings, static pressure, refrigerant state, combustion analysis — whatever the job calls for.

You approve the price

We explain the fault in plain language, show you the options, and quote the work before anything is dismantled.

We finish and test

The job is not done until the system has been run and verified, the work area is clean, and you know what we changed.

Plan your budget

What will this job cost?

Nobody likes calling a contractor without a sense of the number. This estimator uses the ranges we actually invoice in the Manhattan area, adjusted for equipment age and how urgently you need us.

It is a guide, not a quote — the real figure comes from a technician looking at your system. But it should tell you whether you are budgeting hundreds or thousands.

  • Based on local labour and parts pricing
  • Emergency and after-hours rates included
  • No email address required to see the result
Typical invoiced range
$180 – $640

Estimate only. Parts availability, access and the condition of surrounding components all move the final figure.

Yearly service agreement
$119 / year

Two visits a year, priority when it counts

A full spring air-conditioning service and a full fall furnace service, each with a written report. Agreement holders move to the front of the queue during heat waves and cold snaps — exactly when everyone else is waiting three days.

Happy customer reviews

What Manhattan neighbours say

A selection of comments from customers across Riley and Pottawatomie counties.

“Our AC quit on the hottest Saturday of the year. Henton had somebody at the house within two hours, found a failed run capacitor and had us cold again before dinner. No drama, no upsell.”

Dana R.Manhattan, KS

“They replaced a 24-year-old furnace and added a return duct we badly needed. The crew laid down drop cloths in every room they walked through and hauled the old unit away the same afternoon.”

Mark & Julie T.Wamego, KS

“Main line backed up into the basement on a Sunday. The technician cabled it, then ran a camera and showed me the root intrusion on screen so I could actually see what I was paying to fix.”

Priya S.Manhattan, KS

“I have used Henton for both of my rental properties for six years. They quote a range up front, call when they are running late, and the invoice always matches what we discussed.”

Greg H.St. George, KS

“The yearly service agreement is the best money I spend on this house. Two visits a year, and they caught a cracked heat exchanger before it became a carbon monoxide problem.”

Ellen W.Manhattan, KS

“Tankless install in a 1940s house with tight venting. They took the time to do it right instead of talking me into something easier for them. Hot water has been flawless for two years.”

Common questions

Before you pick up the phone

Yes. Our office is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and a technician is on call the rest of the time. Emergency work is billed at a premium rate: time-and-a-half on weekday evenings and Saturdays, and double time on Sundays and holidays. We will tell you which rate applies before we dispatch, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We cover Manhattan and the surrounding Flint Hills communities, including Wamego, St. George, Ogden, Riley, Leonardville, Randolph and Junction City. If you are outside that ring, call us anyway — we will tell you honestly whether we can get to you in a reasonable time or refer you to someone closer.

A standard diagnostic visit during business hours covers the trip and up to the first hour of troubleshooting. Once the technician has identified the fault they will quote the repair before doing the work. You always approve the price before we pick up a tool. Our estimator on this page gives a realistic range for common jobs.

For $119 per year we perform two scheduled visits: a spring air-conditioning service and a fall furnace service. Each visit is a full tune-up, not a quick look — electrical measurements, refrigerant or combustion checks, cleaning, and a written report. Agreement holders also receive priority scheduling during heat waves and cold snaps.
